Anyone who successfully completes the regular MSW programmes from any UGC approved Universities can become a life member of KAPS by paying Rs.1000 (rupees one thousand only) as membership fees and an annual subscription fees of Rs.100 for continuing as an active voting member.

 

Student membership is given in KAPS to those who have enrolled for BSW and MSW programs. The student membership fee is Rs. 200. A certificate will be given to student members and KAPS district chapters will be organizing programs for the student members in consultation with the concerned departments/schools

Student Membership

Student membership is given in KAPS to those who have enrolled for BSW and MSW programs. The student membership fee is Rs. 200. A certificate will be given to student members and KAPS district chapters will be organizing programs for the student members in consultation with the concerned departments/schools. Once the students successfully complete their MSW programs, they can join as regular life members by paying the balance of Rs. 800. For enrolling as student members the respective colleges/department should forward list of students (BSW/MSW) with contact numbers and email ids to KAPS secretariat (format attached).
Forty per cent of the membership fee, annual subscription and student membership fee shall be retained by the state office and sixty percent shall be transferred to the district chapters for its activities.

KAPS Observed World Social Work Day 


KAPS Kottayam Chapter observed World Social Work Day on 11 Mar 2016 with variety of programmes. Social Work Practitioners in Kottayam Dstrict along with staff and students from all the colleges jointly organized the programme. The programme was held at SB College Changanassery. KAPS General Secreatary (President, Kottayam Chapter) welcomed the gathering. Dr.Ipe Varghese (Secretary, KAPS Kottayam Chapter- Head, Dept. of Social Work, BCM College, Kottayam) introduced the concept. Principal, SB college presided over the function. President, Kottayam District Panchayat inaugurated the programme. Dr.Jolly K James (Head, Dept. of Social Work, SB College, Chry) gave felicitation address. Dr. Rosamma (Syndicate member, Kerala University took the seminar on topic “Promoting Dignity and Worth of Peoples”. Students from Assumption college Chry, BCM College, Kottayam and SB College Chry presented papers related to the theme. All the colleges presented one theme based cultural programme. Ms. Merlin Jose, MSW and Ms. Marykutty were honoured during function for their excellent service as professional social workers.
KAPS Idikki Chapter observed World Social Work day at Santhigiri College, Vazhithala, Thodupuzha. Students from all the colleges in Idikki district assembled there. Adv.Suja, Head, Dept. of Social Work Santhigiri College welcomed the gathering. Fr. Paul, Principal, Santhigiri College, presided over. Dr.Ipe Varghese (Secretary, KAPS Kottayam Chapter- Head, Dept.of Social Work, BCM College, Kottayam inaugurated the programme. Dr.Cherian P Kurian (Vice President KAPS -Marian College, Kuttikkanam), Fr.Wilson and Mr.Jobi Babu gave felicitation address. Dr.Mathai Fen took a seminar on the theme “Promoting the dignity and worth of peoples”. A public meeting was organized at Thodupuzha town.
KAPS Kollam Chapter observed World Social Work Day with variety of programmes at Amrutha College, Kollam
Professional Social Workers in Malappuram District have gathered at Malappuram town and observed the day with different programmes.
In Majority of the Social Work colleges and organizations in Kerala, the students and practitioners took a pledge to work hard for the development of the profession.
KAPS Kottayam Chapter meeting on 01 Mar 2016 
KAPS Kottayam District Chapter meeting was conducted on 01 Mar 2016 at Dept. of Social WOrk, BCM College, Kottayam. 22 people participated. The meeting discussed World Social Work day programmes to be held at SB college, Changanachery on 11 Mar 2016.

About KAPS

Kerala Association of Professional Social Workers (KAPS) is the registered professional organization for the Social Workers in Kerala formed on 09 Dec 2012. KAPS has been registered as a society under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955. The formation of KAPS has fulfilled the dream of many veteran Social Workers to unite their voices to deal with issues of professional interests. The association is formed with the purpose of promoting the quality and effectiveness of social work practices in Kerala. This Association will be the common platform for all professionally trained social workers in Kerala. KAPS also intent to take up continuing education programmes for the practicing professionalsKAPS is promoted by the Association of Schools of Social Work in Kerala (ASSK), a registered body of all the schools and departments of social work in Kerala and has the support of professional social workers in PROSA (the association of professional social work educators in Higher Secondry), Social Workers working as Consellors in schools, Kudumbasree, NRHM etc.


The main objectives of KAPS

To promote activities appropriate for strengthening and unifying the social work profession as a whole;To increase awareness about social work profession at various levels and to enhance the public and professional recognition and identity of social work;To represent and advocate for programmes and policies to meet the needs of social work fraternity and its various clientele groupsTo contribute to the development of social work knowledge and research and review the education standards for social workers;To advocate for the pursuit of social justice and changes to social structures and policies in order to promote social inclusion and redress social disadvantage;To promote and facilitate members’ professional development and life-long learning;
